Rainforest Species and Monkeys

Below you will find some of the species you can spot while visiting Costa Rica. We will also tell you in which tours you are more likely to find them. We will be adding new ones all the time so you can always learn something new about some of the rainforest species of Costa Rica.

Squirrel Monkey Saimiri oerstedii

Small, slender, weight from 0,5 to 1 kg. The face, ears and chest area of whitish color and the muzzle is black. The tail is long but is not prehensile. There are two subspecies the citrinellus to the north pacific and oerstedii to the south.
Tours where you can spot them: At Manuel Antonio National Park.

Mantled Howler Monkey Alouatta Palliata

Large and stocky weight from 3.6 to 7.6 Kg. Their body is black with yellowish or blond fur on the flanks. The tail is long and prehensile with a hairless cushion on the lower part near the tip.
Tours where you can spot them: At Manuel Antonio National Park National Park and less frequently at Carara National Park.

White-faced Capuchin Monkey Cebus Capucinus

Description: Medium sized, weight from 1,8 to 4 kg. Most of the body fur is black, with contrasting cream or yellowish fur on the head, chest and shoulders. The face is pink. It has a prehensile tail.
Tours where you can spot them: At Manuel Antonio National park, at Carara National Park and in all the Central Pacific area.
